Made to Learn is a hands-on learning program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our teaching team brings the tools, materials, and guidance directly into the classroom, where students and educators learn by building together.
The result is more than a finished object. It is a classroom with greater capacity to identify barriers, develop solutions, and create access together.
Build Skills by Building Something That Matters
Students transform cardboard and other familiar materials into practical tools that solve everyday problems.
Each project supports the academic, social, communication, and vocational IEP goals students are already working toward, while giving teachers and paraprofessionals practice-based professional development they can use to integrate adaptive design into daily instruction.

The Possibilities
Students leave Made to Learn with more than a collection of completed projects.
They develop transferable skills in communication, collaboration, self-awareness, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. They practice setting goals, following a process, responding to feedback, and reflecting on outcomes.
For students interested in continuing, alumni and advanced program opportunities can provide a pathway into deeper fabrication work, increased responsibility, and meaningful employment and volunteering experiences.
Wherever their next step leads, students leave with greater confidence in their ability to contribute, make choices, and shape the environments around them.
How This Work is Funded
This program is made possible through generous support from city discretionary funding, foundation partners, and individual donors. Current work is supported by the Far Fund, the New York City Council Autism Awareness Initiative, and other allies committed to creating equitable educational opportunities for students with disabilities.
Through a multiyear investment, longtime supporter The New York Community Trust is helping us strengthen and grow Made-to-Learn as we prepare to reach more District 75 students and educators.
