A Tribute to Tanya Couturier: Celebrating her Work and Spirit

Updated: Feb 12

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Tanya, a longtime member of the ADA team.  Tanya joined us in 2015 through a Department of Criminal Justice internship program. It is designed to give women a resume-building experience. Tanya thrived during her internship and started working at ADA after graduating from the program. She joined the ADA team as an assistant fabricator, creating communication cards. Her daughter, Genesis who is now fourteen years old, joined us at the workshop on school holidays, helping out wherever she was needed.  Her son, Jensen, who is three years old, could always be heard laughing and playing at ADA special events.

Tanya was a very proud mother and worked hard to provide for her children under challenging circumstances. She proudly shared her daughter's creative writing and funny updates on her son's toddler antics. Tanya was a generous colleague who always stepped in to help any ADA team member in need. She excelled in orienting and supporting special educators in our Made-to-Learn Program and was an important member of the communication card fabrication team. With Tanya’s help, our fabrication team increased the production of communication cards from 13,000 cards to 18,000 cards in the past year.

To say that we will miss Tanya and her much-loved children is an understatement. ADA is a stronger and better place because of her care and dedication. We salute you Tanya, job well done.
